Girl, sea
May 5, 2011 at 10:20 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 5 CommentsIn April, most of Phnom Penh headed to the countryside as businesses and schools closed for a national holiday, Khmer New Year. I went along on a rented fishing boat to remote islands in the Gulf of Thailand and camped for five days in the woods.
I asked for this, to get a little jolt of the storybook pirate life. And, so it seems, sometimes you get what you ask for.
I have stories from this trip, but for now:
maggie and milly and molly and may
by e.e. cummings
maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles, andmilly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:andmay came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone. For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea
